That's very sad. =( Like you I would think that if Omar decided to let the project go there would have been some kind of announcement. So hopefully it's a glitch and not the end of TS-E. I don't think there is a simple "switch", but if you wish to leave Tinysofa Enterprise, I would recommend you build a new server and migrate your applications across. Tinysofa Classic is certainly as good a choice as any other. I'm currently very enthusiastic about Ubuntu, which is based on Debian. Do you need to look after these servers on your own? Commercial support can be attractive, and an operating system backed by a corporate entity with paid support gives you some security for the future. (This is not an invitation for a flame war about Red Hat or anything else, please.....!) Unless the Tinysofa servers you've set up have been modified a lot, it should not be an enormous amount of work to migrate to another OS.
